Prva konferencija o angažovanju muškaraca i dječaka u Švajcarskoj predstavlja važnu prekretnicu u trenutnoj raspravi o uključivanju muškaraca i dječaka u polu i razvoju.

Representatives of the Citizens’ Association “Budućnost” participated at the first international conference “Men are moving: engaging men and boys in gender and development”, which took place from 7 to 8 June in Basel, Switzerland.

The conference was organized by the Swiss organization IAMANEH and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The first conference on the engagement of men and boys in Switzerland is an important milestone in the ongoing debate on the inclusion of men and boys in the sex and development. Worldwide, important male initiatives are being launched that call into question gender stereotypes and accept new masculinities. Men want to become gender equality partners. Engaging and working with men and boys is essential for achieving gender equality.

“This approach has also produced tangible results in promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights and reducing gender-based violence in recent years. Still, men still have to move. Transformation of gender roles must be extended beyond personal relationships. For the dominant position of power for transition and structural patriarchy, institutions should be challenged, and governments and their leaders must adopt gender-based transformative approaches that target women and men and include them”, said the organizers.

The first day of the conference presented a comprehensive  picture of the involvement of men and boys in policies and practices. Attention was paid to approaches and experiences in different areas of gender equality, with a focus on gender-transformation processes, and elaborated key elements for effective and sustainable implementation.

The second day of the conference was also the day when the social workers of our organisation “Buducnost” had a lecture on the trauma of sensitive work, work at the Men's Center of Modrica and gender-based violence in general. Given that work with perpetrators of violence is in the early stages of many countries, “Buducnost” as the organization that opened the first Male Center for work with perpetrators of violence in Bosnia, and has many years of experience in this area, we were one of the important panelists conference.

“The conference has gathered a large number of experts from all over the world and we are pleased that we had the opportunity to be part of this event, especially because with the support of IAMANEH we started working with men as a key element in stopping violence and building gender equality, it was said from UG “Buducnost”.
